The hydraulic distributor 80 is used to turn on/off and direct working fluid between the head flow generator (hydraulic pump), the head flow consumer (hydraulic cylinder, motor, etc.) and the oil tank. It is made of up to 6 plungers.

Spool hydraulic directional control valve are widely used because they can be moved to two, three or more positions to transport fluid between different combinations of inlet and outlet. They are widely used for directional control of actuators because a single valve can produce extension, retraction and neutral. However, these same functions can be achieved by a binary valve. Figure 3 shows four normally closed (NC) binary valves that are combined into a hydraulic integrated circuit to provide the same function as the spool valve shown in Figure 2.
